Formaldehyde as Carcinogen

By Ann Augustine - Posted on 14 June 2011

When public health is at risk, it is time to listen.

National Toxicology Program of U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Resources released warnings of formaldehyde's carcinogenicity.

Plant workers and others exposed to plywood and particle board wood products containing formaldehyde are affected.

Consumer recommendations are to buy only pressed-wood products with these labels:

U.L.E.F. - ultra-low emitting formaldehyde
N.A.F. - no added formaldehyde
C.A.R.B. - California Air Resources Board Phase 1 or Pase 2 compliant

Hair salons and mortuaries are also at risk.
