“Erin Go Bragh”, the gaelic expression meaning “Ireland Forever” will take on new meaning in the documentary material world.

Recently, the National Library of Ireland launched a new form of exhibition in digitial media format. The library’s collection of rare artifacts now in digital media form date back to the middle ages.

Collections of rare literary manuscripts, survey maps of 18th and 19th century pioneers who identified suitable land for farming of corn and hemp, and popular news of the ages, including photographs, books, periodicals, and drawings all together number almost eight million.

The National Library of Ireland, dubbed Discover Your National Libary: Explore, Reflect,  Connect is open to the public in Dublin.  In addition, online exhibitions of over 33,000 images are accessible through the Ireland National Library's Outreach and Education program.

To further explore the depth of its' digital media, Ireland National Library's stellar installation includes an interactive Microsoft Surface table, a multi-touch computer technology utilized and especially tailored to respond to natural gestures and objects to see many facets of the vast digital collection. Visitors tap the table's interactive screen, zoom and turn images, and reference similar items tagged in the library’s collection.

The achievements of this extensive digital media library project were supported by Microsoft Ireland with Martello Media utilizing Microsoft Silverlight technology. The following image, Discover Your National Library, is the gateway to the online digitial experience.
