Looking Through Eco-Design Eyes
Smart, stylish, and contemporary looking eco-design eyewear is one of the newest entries of environmentally friendly green products.
Can eco-design be the new quality standard? For eyewear made by Modo, like their Earth Conscious Optics collection, this seems to be the new sustainable approach.
Eco-design is about the product’s lifecycle, designed within a sustainable framework that is good for the environment. Sustainability takes into account several things, namely economic, social, and ecological impacts. The product’s economic value is taken from recycled materials that already have value, for example, recycled acetate and stainless steel.
As advocates for creating environmental balance, this approach to take recyclable materials to make eyewear makes perfect sense. Eyewear is an uncompromising necessity, and Modo’s eco-optics collection leads in setting new design standards. UL Environment, a division of the Underwriter’s Laboratories agency certifies its environmental claims. According to Jacquie Ottman, green marketing expert and consultant to Modo, "The ECO line has it all--a thorough approach to eco-design, third party validation, and attractive styling so the consumer makes no trade-off."
Modo’s approach in creating a sustainable brand takes another step further. Modo plants one tree for every frame sold. Imagine if every manufacturer takes eco-design seriously, as much as consumers are starting to do (see Eco-Friendly, Organic, and Green). Modo is showing others that it can be done.
